TRAINING, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

From an early age I was drawn to the world of professional sport, especially martial arts. As a boy, my heroes were the great Japanese karate masters. I admired their skill and strength and was inspired not only by the commitment and discipline of the martial arts world, but also by the humility of the masters. I spent all my free time training, and was lucky enough to be taught by some of Japan’s finest karate teachers. My passion for martial arts led me naturally into the field of physical therapy and after graduating from school I was thrilled to win a place at the Tokyo College of Medicine & Welfare where I followed courses in traditional oriental medicine including acupuncture, massage and moxibustion.

Tokyo College of Medicine & Welfare

I attended the Tokyo Irio Fukushi Senmongakko (Tokyo College of Medicine & Welfare ) (www.tokyoiryoufukushi.ac.jp) from 1981-1986 and gained Japanese national qualifications in Acupuncture, “Anma” massage and Acupressure (Shiatsu) and Moxibustion in 1986.

Akahigedo and the Art of Yin Shiatsu

It was my connection with martial arts that led me to further my training as an apprentice under Dr Noboyuki Takeuchi, master of the Akahigedo Clinic in Tokyo and pioneer of a unique method of treatment combining traditional oriental medical theory and techniques with highly skilled methods of manual diagnosis, called ‘Yin Shiatsu’. It was at this time that I became aware of the extraordinary power of effective deep tissue massage and acupuncture to treat sports injuries and help restore the body to its optimum state.

Alongside my theoretical studies at the Tokyo College of Medicine & Welfare, I worked at the Akahigedo clinic in Yoyogi for over eight years, seeing an average of 10 patients every day, many of whom were professional athletes and dancers.

Japanese Acupuncture & Yin Shiatsu in the UK

In the early 1990s I moved to the UK where I have continued to develop my practice through treating thousands of patients ranging from professional runners, dancers and judo champions to elderly people seeking relief from chronic pain.

Over 90% of my patients come to me through the personal recommendation of friends, family and colleagues.

My clinic is in Southborough, Tunbridge Wells. I also worked for over 20 years in Covent Garden.

I am fully insured and can provide details on request.
