CUPPING

Cupping is an ancient technique which involves creating a vacuum in a cup which produces a suction effect. During cupping, paper is placed in a cup and set on fire. As the fire goes out, the cup is placed upside down on the patient’s skin.

As the air inside the cup cools, it creates a vacuum. This causes the skin to rise and redden as blood vessels expand. The cups are generally left in place for five to 10-15 minutes.

Where tension is widespread cupping can be very effective in relaxing the muscles and improving circulation. Cupping is sometimes used to relax the body and prepare it for acupuncture.

Cupping does leave marks on the body, which will fade after 3-4 days so please tell me if you’re planning to spend time on the beach straight after your treatment!
